When was the last time you gave or received a hug? Do your parents 46            you before you go to school? In Western countries, it's quite common to greet close friends or 47                with a hug.

Our school’s science festival just ended a few days ago. What interested me most was the time we spent making a car. It was made out of corrugated cardboard (瓦愣纸板), but could still hold a person, as well as move.

We were excited about this idea, but we found it hard to make the car. It seemed impossible for a cardboard car to carry someone. Our physics teacher showed us a video, There was some corrugated cardboard shaped like a "V" or “W” in the video. It could hold more weight. This gave us the idea to make the car after getting the proper materials (材料).

Because there was not much time left for us, we had to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how the car should be made and how to test it. I was glad that we were able to work closely with each other. Everyone saw the work as an interesting way to relax. When the car was finally finished, we all wore a smile on our faces and found that all our work had been worth it, even after spending whole afternoons working on it.

We joined the competition after we finished the car. Though we didn’t win any prizes, we found something more meaningful than success. We learned new things about physics and learned how to get along with each other.

Which animals are smart? Your answer may be dogs, monkeys or elephants. Now there is one more animal: sheep.

Scientists from Cambridge University said that sheep could be trained to identify(识别)human faces, the BBC reported. Before testing, scientists let the sheep take a look at pictures of four famous people, including Barack Obama. Then the sheep went into a room with two computer screens. One screen showed a famous person. The sheep always walked toward the screen with the correct faces.

After discovering the sheep's ability to recognize famous people, researchers gave them a new task. They wanted to see whether these farm animals could correctly identify the same people from different angles (角度).To their surprise, the sheep were still able to identify though they were a bit slower than before. Finally, the researchers wanted to know if the sheep could identify their trainers from a photo. As a result, the sheep could do this without any training.

The results show that the sheep's face-recognition abilities are similar to those of monkeys and humans, according to the BBC.

A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. The son felt very happy when he saw the sky filled with colorful kites. He wanted to fly a kite, loo. The father then bought a kite for his son.

The son started to fly the kite. Soon, his kite was high up in the sky. After a while, the son said, “Father, it seems that the string (线) is stopping the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, it will be free and fly even higher. Can we cut it?” The father cut the string and the kite started to go higher. This made the little boy happy.

But then, slowly, the kite started to come down. It soon fell to the ground. The son was very surprised to see this. He asked his father, “I thought that after cutting the string, the kite would fly higher. Why did it fall down?"

The father explained, “The string was not stopping the kite from going higher, but was helping it stay in the sky. You helped the kite go up in the right direction by using the string. But when you cut the string, it could no longer support the kite.”
